Opposition Liberal Democrats on Wearside are celebrating victory in their campaign for replacement wheelie bins to remain free for local people when their bin has been stolen through no fault of their own.
Commenting on plans for increases in Tyne and Wear Metro fares of up to 13%, which will be voted on by councillors on the North East Joint Transport Committee next week, Lib Dem councillor for Grindon and Thorney Close in Sunderland Stephen O'Brien said:
Liberal Democrats on Wearside are forcing a vote to stop the £25 fee for stolen or burnt out wheelie bins being re-introduced by council bosses in 2023.
Fulwell councillor Malcolm Bond is calling for national rail trains to stop at Seaburn station whilst Metro services to and from Sunderland are reduced until the new year.
Commenting on the announcement from Nexus that Metros won't run between Park Lane and South Hylton until the New Year, Lib Dem councillor for Pallion and Ford Estate Martin Haswell said:
Lib Dem councillors in Sunderland are calling for the Council to offer better pay to help recruit new lollipop men and women in the city after posts have been left vacant for months - putting young people's safety at risk.
