Starmer visit shows how desperate Labour have become in Sunderland
Speaking after Labour party leader Sir Keir Starmer's visit to Sunderland today (11th April) Wearside Lib Dem councillor Paul Edgeworth said:
"The Labour leader's second visit to Sunderland this year shows how desperate the local Labour party are to cling on to power and just how far their reputation has fallen in the city in recent years.
"After decades of taking our city for granted, sending in the heavy artillery three weeks before polling day to try and stop the rot is fooling nobody.
"Labour have presided over decades of complacency, neglect, bad decisions and wasteful spending - culminating in the opening of the shameful new rented City Hall offices costing taxpayers £2.4 million each and every year.
"Wearside Liberal Democrats will continue to provide a strong opposition voice, standing up for people across Sunderland, Washington, Houghton and Hetton against the damage done by an incompetent Labour council locally and an out-of-touch Conservative government nationally."
