Residents parking restrictions come back into force on 1st July
Residents living in controlled parking zones across Sunderland are being reminded to apply for, renew and display parking permits as restrictions come back into force on 1st July.
The permit zones stopped being enforced during the coronavirus lockdown, and applications for new permits were suspended.
Applications for new permits and renewals are now back open, and enforcement by traffic wardens will start again on 1st July.
Controlled parking permit zones in the city include:
- Sunderland Royal Hospital - Millfield, Pallion and Barnes areas
- University of Sunderland - Millfield
- Newcastle Road & Seaburn
- Stadium of Light
- Ashbrooke and Thornholme Road
- Barbury Drive - Roker Marina
- Ferryboat Lane
- Howick Park - Monkwearmouth
Lib Dem councillor for Millfield and Thornholme Julia Potts commented:
"The fact that controlled parking zones are being started again from 1st July will be welcome news for people living in problem parking hotspots around the hospital, University and parts of Thornhill near the city centre.
"I'm also pleased that following our requests, the Council will now, for the first time, send people reminders by text and e-mail when their permits are up for renewal where people have given contact details to the council.
"In order to avoid any penalty fines I'd encourage everyone to make sure you display your residents permits again from 1st July and double check to see if your permit is due for renewal."
