No wonder no-one wants a new North East Mayor in face of Labour chaos, say Lib Dems
Commenting on the selection of Kim McGuinness as Labour’s candidate for North East Metro Mayor and on the resignation of Jamie Driscoll from the Labour Party, Leader of the Liberal Democrats opposition on Sunderland Council Paul Edgeworth said:
“Kim McGuinness has absolutely no track record whatsoever in Sunderland. The Newcastle-based Crime Commissioner has been completely invisible, ineffective and incompetent at tackling crime and anti-social behaviour on Wearside. People in Sunderland will - rightly - be extremely worried that our city will be once again be totally overlooked in favour of Tyneside if Kim McGuinness becomes Mayor.
“Jamie Driscoll’s resignation from the Labour party today also shows the total chaos that lies in store if Labour win the election for a new regional mayor next May. Across the North East shambolic Labour politicians are more interested in factionalism and fighting each other than they are about getting things done for local people.
“It is no wonder that the public have no appetite whatsoever to pay for and be governed by a new politician that nobody asked for.”
