Responding to the publication of revised proposals for Parliamentary constituencies today (8th November) Leader of the Lib Dems on Sunderland Council Niall Hodson said:

Niall Hodson

"These revised proposals make much more sense for communities across Wearside - keeping all parts of Sunderland in Sunderland constituencies, making sure the whole of Washington town stays together and keeping the Houghton, Hetton and Shiney Row areas together rather than splitting them up.

"Instead of carving up parts of our city and bunging them in with places like Jarrow, Seaham and Durham City these new plans keep communities together in coherent constituencies.

"It is particularly encouraging to see that plans to annexe Doxford from Sunderland in a 'Seaham and Peterlee' constituency have been axed. A controversial proposal to have Pennywell and South Hylton included in a Jarrow and Hebburn constituency has also been scrapped which is very welcome."
