Lib Dems condemn 'disgraceful' attacks on motorists in Grindon and Thorney Close
Motorists on Tay Road, which links Grindon and Thorney Close estates, had glass bottles and rocks thrown at their vehicles by a group of young people last night (26th November).
A local councillor is urging anyone with information about those responsible for attacks on people driving between two Sunderland estates to contact the police.
Grindon and Thorney Close councillor Stephen O'Brien spoke out after a group of young people threw rocks and glass bottles as motorists drove along Tay Road, which links the two estates, late on Tuesday evening.
Lib Dem councillor for Grindon and Thorney Close Stephen O'Brien said:
"Last night I had several reports of a group of around 10 young people throwing rocks and glass bottles at cars passing on Tay Road, hitting several vehicles.
"Thankfully the police arrived to put a stop to the situation, but residents in both Grindon and Thorney Close are understandably concerned about the incident. I dread to think what would have happened if a rock or bottle had broken a window and hit a driver or passenger.
"It's not the first time things have been thrown at people driving down Tay Road in recent weeks, and the situation probably isn't helped by the fact that there's been a series of temporary traffic lights slowing down traffic. I understand that the local police are patrolling along Tay Road more regularly than usual, which is welcome.
"If anyone has any information about who is responsible for these disgraceful attacks then please contact the police by ringing 101."
