Council must act to deal with eyesore former Farringdon Hall police station following fire
Commenting on the former Farringdon Hall police station in Sunderland being set on fire earlier today, local councillor for neighbouring Thorney Close Margaret Crosby said:
"For years local people have been concerned at the deteriorating state of the former police station building which has become a hot spot for fly-tipping and vandalism. Thanks go out to the fire brigade for dealing with today's fire.
"Sunderland Council must now step up to deal with whoever the owner is, sort out the building and come up with a plan for its future - whether that's finding another use for it or demolishing it. Crucially, the former police station must now be properly secured so that young people aren't put at risk by being able to get into the derelict building.
"Having it continue to stand empty, deteriorate and attract vandals and further arson attacks just isn't an option."
