Call for Police to take action following spate of break-ins on Pallion high street.
Liberal Democrat councillors for Pallion & Ford in Sunderland have called for a Police action plan following a spate of break-ins to shops on Saint Lukes Terrace in Pallion and other nearby shopping centres.
Liberal Democrat councillor for Pallion & Ford Martin Haswell said "Over the last couple of weeks there has been at least a dozen break-ins or attempted break-ins on shops and small business on Saint Lukes Terrace in Pallion and on premises on neighbouring Hylton Road and Chester Road. I've spoke to Traders who have lost thousands of pounds worth of Christmas stock which is going to be incredibly difficult to replace. Other traders have been contacting me worried sick about the risk to their business if they are broken into themselves."
"We urgently need to see an action plan from the Police detailing how they are going to catch those responsible plus increased Police presence in the area to reassure Traders and shoppers alike. We've written to the local Police Chief Superintendent asking them to meet with us to discuss the situation and present a plan to deal with this situation."
Fellow Liberal Democrat councillor for Pallion & Ford Steve Donkin added "These break-ins are putting people's livelihoods at risk. Christmas is the busiest time of year for many businesses and they will be building up stock ready for shoppers coming through the doors. To see these businesses being put at risk by thieves is infuriating and we want to see the Police devoting the resources needed to get these people identified and locked up."
