£95 million of investment for frequency and reliability of trains on the Metro was announced by the Chancellor in the Budget yesterday (11th March).

Now one local councillor in Sunderland says funding should be found to build a new station for Ford Estate in the city.

Commenting, Councillor Martin Haswell said:

"The Metro line to South Hylton runs along the bottom of Ford Estate, but residents here are just that bit too far away from Pallion station for it to be convenient.

"A new station at European Way would bring Metro services in reach of people living in Ford, and would be a big boost for local businesses in the industrial estate too.

"That's why I am working with local people to campaign for Nexus and the Government to use some of this new funding to build a new station for Ford."
