    Wearside's Liberal Democrats have called on the Government to spare families from soaring energy bills by cancelling October's price cap increase, keeping the cap for a typical British household at £1,971 a year instead of rising to over £3,400 in October.

    The bold plan would save a typical household in the Sunderland City Council area an extra £1,787.57 a year from gas and electric bills.

    Lib Dem councillors on Wearside have hit out after Sunderland City Council used taxpayers' money to hire a professional polling company - only for the results to show what was already known about the need to clean the streets and tackle anti-social behaviour in the city.

    Sunderland Council have this morning (28th July) released headline results from a professional residents' survey carried out in November 2021 by polling company Ipsos Mori.

    Lib Dem councillors in Sunderland are celebrating victory after the Council decided to adopt their plan for free pest control for all city residents in a bid to help those being plagued by rats in their homes and gardens.
